Founded in 1937, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is a public comprehensive research university and one of the oldest universities in Hong Kong. It was the first government-funded institution in Hong Kong to provide a professional education in engineering, and was renamed the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1947, the Hong Kong Polytechnic Institute of Technology in 1972, and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1994.
